New free-to-play Apex Legends stealth-launched on Monday with a new take on battle royale (GameSpot)

  • Respawn is following Epic with seasons, seasonal changes, and updates for their game
  • Seasons last around 3 months, season 1 begins in March, season 2 in June, season 3 in September and season 4 in December
  • Respawn says cross-play, not cross-progression,  is coming to the game in the future
  • Respawn says they are working on more TitanFall later in the year but not currently. Probably so they can fully support Apex

Anthem end-game has detailed, it is to have 3 new difficulty modes and 3 new mission types (GameSpot)

  • 3 new difficulty modes = Grandmaster 1, Grandmaster 2, Grandmaster 3
  • 3 new mission types = challenges, contracts, strongholds

EA reveals Anthem upcoming roadmap; the first DLC drop known as Act 1: Echoes of Reality (EA)

  • Microsoft provided a couple quotes that explain their thinking
  • “This will enable game developers to connect players between iOS, Android, and Switch in addition to Xbox and any game in the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs.” adding “Xbox Live players are highly engaged and active on Xbox and PC, but now they can take their gaming achievement history, their friends list, their clubs, and more with them to almost every screen.”
  • Sony Playstation is notably absent from the list as expected
  • More details about this and the tech behind it to be shown at GDC in March of this year

Halo Outpost Discovery is a Halo themed event traveling to various cities in the US (GameSpot)

  • “The announcement promises you can explore a Halo Ring, see a real Warthog, play Halo-themed laser tag, and take part in VR simulations of Halo adventures. You can also attend a panel to hear the creators talk about their work building the Halo universe, or take part in one of the community themed panels revolving around live streaming or cosplay. Finally, hundreds of game stations will let you kick back and just play some Halo.”

Switch console voice chat will become more common courtesy of Vivox (GameSpot)

  • “Vivox has announced that developers can now use the company’s software to add console-based voice chat to their games on Nintendo Switch. Titles that support Vivox SDK will allow you to converse with other players by simply plugging a headset into the Switch console, as opposed to going through the mobile app. This system is already live on Fortnite.  Additionally, Vivox’s software supports cross-platform voice and text communication.”

Update:  The Witcher series author has reached an amicable settlement with CD Projekt Red (wccf tech)

  • This settlement was reached to maintain a healthy relationship between the two

  • He hopes the fans will stick with the franchise and not leave due to the recent problems
